A&D Art Nouveau curtain rod bracket #9, sketched by Alphonse Mucha – assembly and durability testing

A video of the installation and durability test is at the end of the post.

Since we introduced our Belle Epoque curtain rod brackets to the public, we have been asked several times – “how to screw them on” and “how heavy curtains can they hold”. We took 2 pieces made of birch wood not polished yet and tested them.

Let’s start with the main point – A&D curtain rod bracket #9 sketched by Alphonse Mucha is designed to hold 1 or 2 rows of curtain rods. The most vulnerable in terms of load is the place for the curtain rod closest to the wall. We collected in our workshop heavy tools with a total weight of 11 kg, which we “hung” instead of curtains. The curtain rod, made of solid birch, holds this weight. Solid oak can afford more. But!!! This is true only for normal load. Wood, like glass, does not tolerate shocks! Shock load can break everything!

Mounting is easy – supplied with a 3.25-4mm diameter self-tapping screw –

You will need to make a hole with a diameter of 3.5 mm in the wall for it. Screw the self-tapping screw (threaded rod) into this hole, being careful not to damage the threads. It is a good idea to use a screwdriver –

screw in so that 10-15 mm protrudes from the wall –

Now screw the bracket itself onto this thread –

All that is left is to insert the rod –

And now we’re going to put it to the test. We weigh everything we find –

We put everything we find in a bag and hang it on the curtain rod –
