Art Deco Room Divider Folding Screen Snedronningen

In fact, Art Deco is not our style. However, when publishing the A&D World room dividers collection, we noticed the almost complete absence of Art Deco representatives in it. It would seem that Art Nouveau did not turn into Art Deco in an instant; there was a fairly long transition period. However, despite the diversity of forms and decor of this period, we were unable to find a single room divider that reflected the spirit and characteristic features of this particular epoch. This was fully confirmed by all the films we watched related to the 20-30s of the last century: all the folding screens we saw could be attributed to any period – they didn’t have any pronounced and memorable features. In other words, they were boring and inexpressive.

It seems to us that the screen hides a certain secret. By fencing off part of the room, it creates a hidden from prying eyes, but at the same time very attractive in its mystery space. Perhaps in the Art Deco epoch the world became a little more pragmatic? And things, first of all, functional? We do not know, but the fact remains: the world does not please us with interesting folding screens in the Art Deco style.

Meanwhile, many of our clients love this style – and not without reason. And we finally decided to please ourselves and the world with a well-thought-out model of the Art Deco Room Divider Folding Screen . We could not find any interesting prototype, we had to give free rein to our imagination. One walk in the spring park, a good conversation, a little wine, a little more time, and the drawings were born –

The drawn shapes for some reason disturbed the memory. And already in the process of polishing the thought became clear – the classic Art Deco shape in the form of a crystal brings associations with winter, ice and the Snedronningen (Snow Queen) by H.Ch. Andersen. It became clear that the color should be white, the crystals – shades of ice. This association gave the name to the model.

However, cutting out the details from wood is only a small part of the job. Now we need to sand it and make it “snowy”, and not just paint it, but preserve the texture and pattern of the wood. So that it is white, snowy, but the pattern of the wood is preserved. For this, we use a special composition, the secret of which we will take with us to the grave. We can make not just white wood, but even with mother-of-pearl – for this we add finely ground pearls to linseed oil :). But white is banal. We’ve made the color “ivory” –

Now we need to make stained glass inserts. For this, we use proven paints with stained glass effect from the French brand Pébéo. Serious discussions flared up, more wine was needed. We decided to make inserts of different colors. After that, we spent two whole days discussing what to do with the pattern cut out on the wood. We wanted to somehow emphasize it and decided to use paint with a “metallic” effect. Someone might want gold on white, but for the first piece we had chosen the color of tin. The cold silver shade adds frosty freshness to our Snow Queen. But upon request, we are ready to provide the option of “gold/copper/bronze on ivory”.

So, we present the unique A&D Art Deco Room Divider Folding Screen “Snow Queen” (Snedronningen)

And as soon as we finished that project, we immediately started working on a chandelier based on that prototype –
